phase one - first post

On this inaguration day...we not only celebrate a new energy that has enveloped our nation, we also celebrate the birth of yet another blog. The world really doesn't need another blog and I'm pretty sure that any opinion that I could offer on politics, the economy or general life choices would probably be worthless to most.

timeout...
As I sit here watching inaguration ball after inaguration ball, the same dance over and over, the same dress and tux over and over, the same speech over and over, I can only hope that SNL is as merciless to our new president as they have been to our old president, cuz I see the makings of a really good skit here.

Okay, the purpose of this blog is to explore my nerdiness. It's all technical. I wrote this blog application using google app engine, which makes no sense, since google has a perfectly good blog application already. I'll use this blog to showcase the things I like. What all of this probably means is that this blog will last about 5 minutes. That's probably how long it will take some 5th grader to hack in and destroy my work. But that's ok. I can rebuild! You hear that 5th grader!

You'll notice the name is a little strange. In my attempt to be creative I fell back on the nickname of someone very, very close. It was the first word I heard when I was registering the site. I won't tell you who the nine year old is. He might get embarassed.

timeout again...
I finished listening to the inaguration. Now I'm listening to a stream of usa rock 101. Did you know that the CIA is advertising for a clandestine agent opening on the radio? Man that's a little strange.

Check out some of the favorite sites if you get a chance. They are nerdy in a bike kind of way. Bike Snob NY is really funny. If my blog lasts longer than a week, maybe we'll see some of the other sections top views, etc. have at least 1 or 2 showings.

Topics...Here's what I hope to cover:
JavaScript clock
It sounds kind of stupid, but it's kind of neat. At my old job (that I left 3 weeks ago) a lady had this funny clock on her desk made up of a bunch of cubes that lit up to show the time. I remade it in JavaScript and CSS. Maybe it still sounds stupid.

This Beautiful Blog Software You See Before You
It's google app engine, crazy asynch library I created, and some nasty CSS.

iPhone/iPod Stuff
I'm a big fan of Apple and the iPhone. I'm stuck on Verizon (i like Verizon) and I really hate ATT, so all I've got is an iPod. That's enough for me to get hooked. Next step is to get a Macbook. It will be coming soon and so will the iPhone/iPod SDK. In the meantime I may pull together a webapp and host it on google.

Charting Objects
I created some simple to use charting classes in .Net. I used these at my old job to help monitor some of our processes. I'm thinking of converting these over to Javascript and use canvas for the drawing component. Probably more iPod/iPhone stuff as I think Safari supports canvas. I don't think IE does. Why? Google already has a robust charting service. Yeah I know.

Salesforce.com
I really hated leaving the old job. Mostly because I worked with a good group of people. The programmers were sharp and our users were patient. We also got to work with alot of really cool technology. I left about two thirds through a really cool project to upgrade to Salesforce.com. I was the dev lead on the project and I didn't get too much Apex / Force.com experience, unfortunately. The integration partner and developers got the honors, BUT I'm still interested in it. I've got my developer account and I will pull down the Salesforce.com google app engine library. I watched the demo on SF and gae. Tie all of that together with iPhone SDK and we can do some crazy stuff. Before you say it, I know....SF already has an iPhone app. There are some use restrictions on it I think and it may only interface with the standard SF objects. I've had an opportunity to work with alot of crazy stuff over the years...Edify (on OS/2), Forte (before Sun bought them), Seibel (before Oracle bought them). Salesforce.com is another crazy one, but these guys really know their market and they've partnered with the right people. Now if google would just buy them, all would be good.

I've got a list of about 10 other things I want to do, but I've run out of time tonight. Anyway, that's enough for a first post. Up next the clock.
